Knowing what each day after an FUE hair transplant looks like makes recovery easier and protects your result. This is a general guide. Your clinic’s personal aftercare instructions always come first.
The main rule: for the first 10 days, avoid friction, pressure and combing on the transplanted area.
| Time after surgery | What changes |
|---|---|
| 10 days | Still no scratching, picking scabs, tight headwear, intense sport, sex or heavy lifting. |
| 14 days | No nicotine for at least 2 weeks. Longer is better for healing. |
| 2-3 weeks | Light exercise returns earlier; intense exercise usually not before 2-3 weeks and only with your surgeon’s approval. |
| 4 weeks | No sauna, steam room or hot tub, and no swimming in a pool, the sea or a lake. |
| 4+ weeks | Protect your scalp from sun and sunburn. |

Call your clinic if you notice strong itching with an unpleasant smell, pus, growing redness or pain, bleeding that does not stop, or a fever.
Many people return to calm office work after 3-5 days, but redness, scabs or swelling may be visible longer. Physical work, dusty places or a required hard hat need separate approval from your provider.
Only a loose, clean cap and only after your clinic allows it. It must not touch the grafts when you put it on or take it off.
Gentle washing often starts on day 2. You move to normal washing gradually, usually after the check-up on day 10-14.
Yes. Shedding between 2 and 8 weeks is an expected part of the cycle. New growth usually starts at 3-4 months.
