PRP After Hair Transplant: Does It Help and When to Start?

AestheteMed provider explaining the FUE hair transplant method

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is often discussed as a way to support results after an FUE hair transplant. This guide explains what PRP is, what it may and may not do after a transplant, and how it fits into a hair restoration plan at AestheteMed in Hallandale Beach. Your provider’s personal plan always comes first.

What Is PRP?

PRP is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun in a centrifuge so the platelets are concentrated in plasma, and this concentrate is injected into the scalp. Platelets carry growth factors, which is why PRP is used in hair restoration to support the hair follicles.

Why Combine PRP With a Hair Transplant?

  • Support for the transplanted area. PRP is used to support healing of the scalp and the environment around new grafts.
  • Support for existing hair. A transplant moves follicles; it does not stop ongoing thinning of the native hair around them. PRP is one of the options used to support that hair.
  • Overall density. Some patients choose PRP as part of a longer plan to keep the result looking full.

Studies on PRP after hair transplant show encouraging but mixed results, and outcomes vary from person to person. PRP is a supporting treatment, not a replacement for the transplant itself.

When Can You Start PRP After a Transplant?

The timing and number of sessions are set by your provider. The scalp first needs to heal: in the first 10 days the grafts should not be exposed to friction or pressure (see recovery day by day). After that, your provider decides whether PRP makes sense for you and when to plan it.

What a PRP Session Looks Like

  1. A small blood sample is taken.
  2. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets.
  3. The plasma is injected into the scalp in the treatment area.
  4. Most people return to normal activities the same day; your provider will tell you about washing and care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PRP necessary after a hair transplant?

No. PRP is optional. Some patients use it to support healing and their existing hair; your provider will tell you whether it makes sense for you.

Can PRP replace a hair transplant?

No. PRP can support existing follicles, but it does not create new follicles in bald areas. A transplant moves follicles to where they are needed.

How soon after the transplant can I have PRP?

Only after the scalp has healed and your provider confirms it. The first 10 days are the most sensitive for the grafts.

How much does PRP cost?

At AestheteMed, PRP therapy is $486 per vial, or $340 for AM Club members.
